"Love is" comic strips are well-known worldwide. These heart-warming illustrations have gained the sympathy of thousands of people owing to their innocence and simplicity. Love is… comic strip collection was created by New Zealand artist Kim Grove in the late 1960s. The beginning to the series of comic pictures was laid by a certain number of love notes for her future husband. Love is pictures were published not only in magazines, but the most famous were printed on greeting cards and souvenirs. All "Love is" pictures are made up in a similar design. The beginning of a phrase that gave the name to the whole collection of comic strips "Love is" is situated in the upper left-hand corner of the illustration. In the middle of the panel there is a pretty drawing. And under the drawing there is the remainder of the phrase whose meaning is reflected on the drawing. There are 2 main personages that make their appearance on every illustration – a pair of sweethearts, a man and a woman. They look like infants, but nevertheless, they represent grown-ups at different stages of romantic relationship – from the moment they met each other through being a boyfriend and a girlfriend to a married couple having children that appear on the pictures now and then. Amongst other characters that are displayed every now and then there are also parents of a male and a female. The introduction of several members of the family assists in showing all sides of love. The leading personages are usually together, but from time to time they make their appearance alone. In case one of them is thinking about the other, the face of his partner may appear in a dream balloon, on a picture, or even a screen saver. There are also several illustrations where other men or women are shown. A distinctive feature is that these people look completely different than the main characters. One more supporting character is a dog that represents common house and home comfort. Moreover, the majority of the items on a drawing are heart-shaped. This symbolizes the collection's theme. Today's "Love Is..." comic pictures, as seen in newspapers worldwide, are accessible in an online archive. It is kind of an effort to stretch Valentine's Day romance throughout the year.
